Infinity-1

The story about Infinity-1 promises a blend of technological wonders, a touch of old-fashioned romance, elements of comedy and a strong sense of adventure.

Infinity-1, developed by Conners Corporation, is a technological marvel, so cutting-edge it promises to transform the industry.  With such absurd claims, its development has been met with widespread skepticism and ridicule, as well as, fierce corporate rivalry dismissing Conner’s claims as pure hyperbole. In the absence of media coverage, Conners successfully launches their spaceship. Now, proving the spaceship’s extraordinary capabilities will hopefully save Conners Corporation from bankruptcy and enable it to regain its prominence in the industry.

The unique aspects of Infinity-1 were brought about by a team of science fiction writers.  Conners appreciated that these writers were always well ahead of technology. Throughout history, writers such as Jules Vern, were writing about things that were decades ahead of their coming to fruition.  So, Conners assembled a team of writers who would describe something and the corporation engineers would find ways to incorporate them into Infinit-1’s design.  The new spaceship was named Infinity-1 because so many of its features were infinitely beyond anything else in existence.

Infinity-1 is preparing for its maiden voyage to demonstrate and document what it can do.  Its crew is comprised of the group of, barely experienced for actual space travel, engineers who were responsible for designing the Infinity-1 and the team of science fiction writers who conceived it.  The captain is recently retired Admiral Mark Cohen, who last served as the captain of the Starship Moonbeam, which had been on a decade long intergalactic assignment to go to yet to be explored areas of the universe.

The voyage would be otherwise unexceptional if it were not for the Garr family’s intervention.  They control a near monopolistic position in the spaceship manufacturing industry, being the largest and most profitable company in the universe. They were not about to let Conners drive their business into bankruptcy. 

The family has a history of employing disreputable tactics reminiscent of early 20th-century industrial moguls on planet Earth.  They are willing to go to great lengths -including the theft of Infinity-1’s technology, sabotage the voyage or the destruction of Infinity-1 if the first two options fail- to maintain their position. To assure their continued profitability they have put out false stories about some illegal activities the Infinity-1 has been involved while on the mission along with a bounty for its capture or destruction, highlighting the cutthroat extremes to which they are willing to go. 

The maiden voyage holds significant importance.  Besides proving the manufacturer’s claims, It has been contracted to investigate a baffling cosmic anomaly responsible for the disappearance of spaceships.  The unexplained spaceship disappearances is reminiscent of the historical disappearances of aircraft in the Bermuda Triangle. The intent of the mission seeks  to uncover the truth behind spaceship disappearances.  

The voyage will be constantly hampered by space pirates seeking to claim the reward proffered by the Garr family.  Being a non-military spaceship they are not legally allowed to use  any weapons.  While it would seem the crew is in a weak position to defend themselves, they are not at a total loss.    Ingenious ideas conceived by the science fiction writers and the cunningness of the engineers, enable them to find innovative applications of Infinity-1’s unique capabilities to protect themselves against the ever persistently aggressive hordes. Some, you will find, are even shockingly humorous.
